Duck Lane Farm

Water, water everywhere.
Snow has all melted away but water is running everywhere. Mud should dry up in a couple of days. Observing water flow from heavy rain followed by snow should be helpful in rehabbing ponds and possibly new locations for additional ponds. All five ponds are full and the spring fed pond up the hill from the house is still overflowing. The large pond about 4/10 of a mile up the North hill is covering between 3 to 4 acres right now. May have to get a rowboat.
On a positive note we now have water. The well is up and running, good clear water with no problems. One less thing to have to replace.

In the Beginning
Sitting in the snow, two days from spring, looking out over the farm.
House reconstruction and addition has been going very slow, expected faster but didn't realize we had moved to the North Pole. The crazy Duck Lady has been busy collecting her menagerie, so far a cow and calf, three peacocks, five laying hens, twelve cookoo maran pullets, and two miniature horses. We have driven to places far and wide in our quest, including Oklahoma City. Taking back roads to get the latest chickens we ran across a man on a dirt corner selling Ammo, Shrimp and Lobster. We purchased ammo but weren't sure the shrimp would survive the remainder of our day. Only in Arkansas, although to be fair we may have been in Misourri, we were somewhat disoriented (lost) at the time.
Our "farm" sits on 120 rolling acres by the shore of Bull Shoals Lake in northern Arkansas. Similar to Sarah Palin, on a clear day I can see Missouri from our driveway. The farm was overgrown and in great disrepair when we took possession. We have been clearing thorn trees and cedar trees, taking the house down to the studs, working on cattle pens and barn, building temporary bird pens, and organizing the shop. First sunny day I'm going fishin.
